This is a hard out-and-back hike of about 22.6 miles in the Three Sisters Wilderness, part of the McKenzie River Ranger District of the Willamette National Forest in Oregon. The trail rises from a low point of about 4,442 feet to a high of about 5,489 feet, a climb of roughly 1,176 feet one way. The route is on natural surface and is open year-round. Horses are allowed, but bikes are not. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Wickiup Dam show July highs around 83°F with only about three wet days, while winter brings highs near 40°F and rain on roughly 13 days a month. That station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the high ground run cooler. Bear Flat Trail #3301 is about half a mile away, and Olallie Mountain is about 1.8 miles off. Paddlers can reach Horse Creek and the South Fork McKenzie River within about 5 miles.
