Old Ranch Road is a 3.1-mile out-and-back hike in Oregon's Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, on land managed by the Forest Service. It rises from a low point of 150 feet to a high of 1,231 feet, with a total elevation gain of 2,101 feet over the course of the route, which makes it a demanding climb. The trail is hardest at the end, where the steepest stretch of about 16% grade comes at roughly 2.9 miles. That puts the most work in the last stretch of the return, so plan for that when pacing yourself. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. At a nearby weather station, typical July and August highs average around 82°F with only about two wet days a month, while winter brings highs in the low 40s and frequent rain. The hike is close to several other routes. Coyote Cliffs Trail starts just 0.1 mile away, and Little Moab, Little Maui and Labyrinth are all within half a mile.
