North Fork Segment #1 is a 9.8-mile out-and-back hike in Oregon's Willamette National Forest, within the Middle Fork Ranger District. The route rises from a low point of 1,075 feet to a high of 1,294 feet, with a total elevation gain of 337 feet. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is open year round. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the nearby Oakridge Fish Hatchery weather station show July and August highs in the low 80s °F with only two or three wet days a month, while winter months see highs in the low to mid 40s and rain on 14 to 17 days. The trail is natural-surface and open to horses and bikes. Alpine Trail starts less than a mile away, and Lower Middle Fork is about 1.7 miles off. Deception Creek offers canoeing about 3 miles out, and Black Canyon Campground and Picnic sits roughly 4.8 miles from the route.
