McIntyre Ridge Trail #782 is a 5.8-mile point-to-point hike in Oregon's Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness, within the Zigzag Ranger District of Mt. Hood National Forest. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail crosses wilderness boundaries, so plan on a route that stays within designated backcountry. The trail starts at about 4,147 feet and climbs to a high point of 4,187 feet, with a total elevation gain of 2,146 feet. The steepest stretch comes at about 3 miles in, where the grade reaches 33%. The route also descends roughly 2,540 feet, so the total drop is more than the climb. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the nearby Government Camp weather station show July and August highs around 70°F with only about four wet days a month, while winter months bring highs in the mid-30s and rain on most days. The trip takes about three hours. Douglas and Mcintyre Ridge are both within a mile, and Wildwood Recreation Site offers camping about 5 miles away.
