Horse Ridge is a moderate out-and-back hike in the Prineville Deschutes Field Office of the Bureau of Land Management in central Oregon. The trail stretches about 9 miles round trip, rising from a low point of 4,307 feet to a high of 4,888 feet, with a total elevation gain of about 1,223 feet. The climb gets steepest around the 2-mile mark, with a grade of about 20 percent. The route is rated moderate, and the estimated time for the full trip is about 3.5 hours. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Brothers, at a similar elevation, run from highs around 71°F in June to about 82°F in July, with lows in the mid-40s. Winter is cold, with January highs near 37°F and lows around 18°F. The Oregon Desert Trail passes about 1.8 miles away, and the Escape from Moscow and Parkway hikes are each about 1.9 miles off.
