The Goldhill - Quentin Segment is a hard hike in the Sweet Home Ranger District of Oregon's Willamette National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. The route is an out-and-back of about 7.6 miles, with a total elevation gain of 3,606 feet. The trail starts at roughly 4,934 feet and reaches a high point of about 4,982 feet, with the steepest stretch at about 3.2 miles in, where the grade reaches 24%. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Santiam Junction, which sits about 1,200 feet lower, show July and August highs around 76°F with lows near 42°F. That station's figures are only a guide, as temperatures on this trail run cooler. The hike is open from May 1 to October 31, and the estimated time is about 4.5 hours. Bikes are allowed on the natural-surface trail. Tidbits Mountain and Tidbits South are both within about a mile and a half. Tidbits Creek, a canoeing spot, is about 2.5 miles away, and Lookout Campground is about 5.4 miles off.
