Blue Lagoon is an easy, short out-and-back hike in the Bend/Fort Rock Ranger District of Oregon's Deschutes National Forest. The trailhead sits at about 4,740 feet, and the route climbs to a high point of 4,781 feet before returning, with a total round-trip elevation gain of about 125 feet. The trail is roughly 1.4 miles long, and the Forest Service manages the surrounding land. The most comfortable stretch for a visit runs from late spring through early fall. At the nearby Wickiup Dam weather station, typical averages from June to September bring highs in the 70s and 80s and only a few wet days a month. The station sits about 423 feet lower than the trail, so temperatures up high run slightly cooler. The trail is open from about June 1 through October 31, and the trip takes about half a day. Bikes are allowed, and the surface is natural. Senoj Lake lies about half a mile away, and Little Lava Lake and Lava Lake Campground are both within a mile. The Metolius-Windigo Trail is also about a mile off.
