West Winds is a Forest Service campground in the Hebo Ranger District of Oregon's Siuslaw National Forest, about 18 miles from the town of Hebo. It sits next to the large sand dune area at Sand Lake and is a popular base for off-highway vehicle trips, with dune and beach access built into the setup. The campground has 18 paved sites. Some have fire rings, and those without must use raised fire pits. Flush toilets are among the amenities. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from the nearby Cloverdale weather station show July and August highs around 70°F with only about four wet days a month, while winter months bring highs in the low 50s and rain on most days. East Dunes Campground and Sandbeach are both within a quarter mile. The Whalen Island Loop and Estuary View Trail are about a mile and a half away.
