Welch Creek Campground is a Forest Service site in the North Fork John Day Ranger District of the Umatilla National Forest in Oregon, about 13 miles from Olive Lake. It is a place for gatherings, with its open area and easy parking access making it a natural fit for family reunion camp-outs and group hunting trips. The campground has six campsites, a vault toilet and a recreational stock corral with four stalls. There is no potable water or garbage service, so visitors are asked to pack out their garbage. Fees are charged for recreation here. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from the nearby Long Creek weather station show July highs around 84°F with only about four wet days, while winter months bring highs near 40°F and several snow days. Desolation Creek, about 3 miles away, offers canoeing. The Blue Mountain Trail and South Fork Desolation Trail are both a little over 6 miles out. Olive Lake, with fishing, boating and swimming, is about 13 miles east along Forest Road 10.
