Lee Thomas Campground sits on the banks of the North Fork of the Wild and Scenic Sprague River, about an hour and a half southwest of Paisley, Oregon. It lies within the Paisley Ranger District of the Fremont-Winema National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. Lodgepole pines, rock outcroppings and riparian meadows make up the surrounding landscape, and all seven campsites are close enough to hear the river's riffles. The campground has picnic tables, fire grates, one vault toilet and potable water. No fees are required to stay here, and the Lee Thomas Trailhead, about a mile east, gives access to Deadhorse Rim Trail #139. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Gerber Dam show July highs around 86°F with lows near 48°F, while winter highs there hover in the low 40s. That station sits roughly 1,400 feet lower than the campground, so temperatures at the river run cooler. Nearby options include the Spur and Dead Horse Rim hikes, both about 2 miles away, and Sandhill Crossing Campground at about 2 miles. Gearhart Mountain Trail is roughly 2.5 miles off.
