Island Campground is a small, seven-site Forest Service campground in the North Umpqua Ranger District of Oregon's Umpqua National Forest, about a mile off Highway 138. It sits beside the North Umpqua River, which gives it a riverside setting for summer shade and the sound of moving water. Vault toilets are the only restroom facility, and there is no garbage service, so visitors must pack out their trash. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July and August highs around 84°F with only about three wet days a month, while winter months bring highs in the mid-40s and rain on 17 or more days. The Steamboat Ball Field Group Site and Steamboat Group Site both sit about 0.3 miles away, and the North Umpqua Trail: Panther starts about 0.7 miles off. Farther afield, the North Umpqua River offers fishing about 2 miles away.
