Green Canyon Campground sits within the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness, on the Zigzag Ranger District of Mt. Hood National Forest in Oregon. The Forest Service manages the land, and the campsite is set in a cluster of wilderness and forest district boundaries. The most comfortable months for a visit are July and August, when typical averages from a nearby weather station run to highs around 78 to 79°F and only four or five wet days a month. Winter is cold and wet, with highs in the low 40s and rain on about 20 days a month from November through March. Vault toilets are the only amenity at the site, and a fee is charged for stays. The closest trails are the Old Salmon River, about 0.2 miles away, and the Salmon River, about 0.4 miles away. Climbers can head to Salmon River Slab, roughly 0.6 miles off, and paddlers will find Cheeney Creek about 2.1 miles away.
