Old Military Road is a 4-mile out-and-back hike in the Choctaw Ranger District of Ouachita National Forest in Oklahoma, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is rated moderate, with a total elevation gain of 452 feet. The route starts at about 1,300 feet and reaches a high point of 1,437 feet. The steepest stretch comes at about half a mile in, with a grade of 16 percent. The trail is natural-surfaced, so plan on a rougher walk than a paved path. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Wilburton show October highs around 75°F with lows near 52°F, while July and August average highs of 94°F. That station sits well below the trail, so temperatures on the route run cooler. The Choctaw Nation - North Spur hike starts just 0.2 miles away, and the Old Military Road Trail for mountain biking is 0.3 miles off.
