Tanager Trail is a short, easy out-and-back hike in Burr Oak State Park in Ohio, managed by the State Department of Natural Resources. The trail is about 0.8 miles long, and the round trip covers roughly 1.6 miles with a total elevation gain of about 350 feet. The high point is around 1,000 feet, and the steepest stretch comes early on, at about 0.36 miles in, with a grade of about 9 percent. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show May highs around 73°F and September highs around 78°F, with September also seeing the fewest wet days of the year. The hike takes about half an hour, so it works well as a quick stop. Burr Oak Campground is about 2 miles away, and the Burr Oak Lakeview Trail and the Lakeview hike are both within about 2 miles. Paddlers can find Sunday Creek about 4 miles off.
