Family Wall is a climbing area in North Carolina, about a mile from the community of Quail Ridge. It sits among a cluster of other climbing areas, with Doggy Day Care, Comatose Area and Lakeview Area all within a tenth of a mile. That makes it easy to pair with other routes in the same stretch of the state's climbing country. The area has 14 routes, with trad climbing the most common style. Mixed and sport routes also appear, and the grades run from 5.6 up to 5.11+. Among the named routes are Family Wall Corner at 5.6, Dirty Jugs at 5.7, and Direct Descendents at 5.11+. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Lake Lure show October highs around 72°F with lows near 47°F, and April is similar at about 72°F by day and 44°F at night. That station sits roughly 650 feet lower than the wall, so temperatures on the rock run cooler. Hikers can find the Rumbling Bald Loop about half a mile away and the Party Rock Trail at under a mile. Lake Lure, a fishing spot, is about 1.4 miles off.
