Flanagan's Run is a short cross-country ski trail in the Mount Van Hoevenberg Winter Recreation Area in New York, on land managed by the State Department of Conservation. It runs 0.54 miles one way, and despite its length it is rated hard. The trail climbs about 130 feet one way. Skied out and back, the full trip covers about 1.1 miles with roughly 320 feet of climbing and the same amount of descent. Elevations range from about 1,900 to just over 2,040 feet. The steepest pitch, around a 12 percent grade, comes about a quarter mile in, so expect the hardest work early on the way out and a quick descent on the return. For skiing, the heart of winter is the time to go. February typically averages highs near 27°F and lows around 8°F, according to normals from a nearby weather station at Lake Placid. That station sits slightly lower than the trail, so temperatures on the route run a little cooler. Cascade, Rabbit Run and Dog Bone all lie about 0.1 miles away, making it easy to link this run with other ski trails. The West Branch Ausable River is about 2 miles off.
