Sweet Clover Trail is a 1.8-mile moderate hike in Schunnemunk State Park in New York, managed by State Park and Recreation. The trail is a point-to-point route, and it rises from a starting elevation of 1,356 feet to a high point of 1,520 feet, with a total elevation gain of 1,195 feet. That makes it a climb worth planning for, and the trail also descends to a low point of 458 feet, so the full trip involves both ascent and descent. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at West Point, NY, show May highs around 72°F and September highs around 76°F, while July peaks near 85°F. That station sits about 1,200 feet lower than the trail's high point, so temperatures on the trail run cooler. The trail takes about an hour to complete. Barton Swamp Trail is half a mile away, and Ridge to Ridge Trail and Dark Hollow Trail are each within about a mile. Paddlers can find Moodna Creek about 1.6 miles off.
