Second Pond Trail is a 2.65-mile hike in New York's Chatiemac Lake Primitive Area, managed by the State Department of Conservation. The route is a point-to-point walk with a rolling climb, rising from about 2,317 feet to a high point of 2,534 feet. The total elevation gain is 359 feet, and the trail is rated easy. The most comfortable stretch for a visit is summer. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Indian Lake run to highs around 75°F in July, with lows near 54°F. That station sits roughly 860 feet lower than the trail's high point, so temperatures on the higher ground run cooler. The trail is a short outing, estimated to take about an hour. Bikes and horses are not allowed. Chatiemac Cliff, a climbing area, lies about a mile away. Topridge Quad and Sunway, both ski touring destinations, are within about 2.6 miles. Moxham Mountain, another climbing area, is roughly 8 miles off.
