Fitzgerald is a short, easy hike in New York, about 0.9 miles long and rising roughly 160 feet from a low point of 1,370 feet to a high of 1,533 feet. The nearest town is Almond, about 1.7 miles away. The most comfortable months for a visit are late spring through early fall. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Hornell Almond Dam show June highs around 76°F and September highs around 71°F, with July the warmest at about 81°F. Winters are cold, with January highs near 30°F and several snowy days each month from December through February. The Canacadea Creek paddling route lies about 3.5 miles away. Within roughly 7 miles are the Happy Valley Trail and the Pioneer Fitness Trail. For an overnight stay, Stewart Forest Road Horse Camp is about 8 miles off.
