Cornell Mine Trail is a 2.4-mile moderate hike in Bear Mountain State Park, New York, set within the Appalachian National Scenic Trail corridor. The trail rises from about 176 feet to a high point of 970 feet, with a total elevation gain of 1,049 feet, and the climb is front-loaded, so the steepest stretch comes early on. The route is a point-to-point trail, and the land is managed by State Park and Recreation. Bikes and horses are not allowed. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at West Point, NY, show May highs around 72°F and September highs around 76°F, with temperatures on the trail running cooler than at the station. The hike takes about 1.5 hours. The Dock Trail starts just 0.2 miles away, and Twin Forts and the Major Welch Trail are within a mile. Climbers can head to Blue Mountain Park, about 4.9 miles off.
