Cole Kettle Trail is an easy hike in New York, about 1.7 miles from the community of Windmill Farm. It is a short outing, roughly 1.4 miles long, with a low elevation gain of about 49 feet. The trail rises from about 470 feet to about 550 feet, and the steepest stretch comes at around the 0.67-mile mark, where the grade reaches about 9 percent. The trail is suitable for horses, which is one of the few places where you can ride this route. Bikes are not allowed. Late spring and early fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show May highs around 69°F and September highs around 74°F. Winters are cold, with January highs near 37°F. Several trails start close by. Laurel Trail, Veery Trail and Hemlock Trail are each about 0.3 miles away, and Fox Run Trail is about 0.4 miles off. Climbers can head to Westmoreland Sanctuary, about 0.7 miles away.
