Wheeler Summit is a 4.4-mile out-and-back hike in the Wheeler Peak Wilderness, part of the Questa Ranger District of Carson National Forest in northern New Mexico. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is a natural-surface route with no horses or bikes allowed. The climb rises from about 11,117 feet to 13,039 feet, a gain of 1,891 feet, and the hike is rated moderate. The summit sits within designated wilderness, so plan on a day trip rather than an overnight base. Several other destinations lie close by. The Twining Blue Lake Pack Trail is about 0.7 miles away, and Willams Lake and Lost Lake are each within about a mile. For an overnight stay, Twining Campground is about 3 miles off.
