Thirty Something is a short, easy out-and-back hike on natural-surface trail in the Silver City Ranger District of Gila National Forest in southwestern New Mexico. The trail starts and ends at about 6,500 feet, with a high point of 6,611 feet and a total elevation gain of 131 feet over its 2.5-mile route. The Forest Service manages the land. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from the nearby Ft Bayard weather station run to highs around 73°F in April and 74°F in October, while July and August bring highs near 88°F and about 13 wet days a month. That station sits about 500 feet lower than the trail, so temperatures on the route run a little cooler. The trail is open year-round, and it's a versatile one for hikers, riders and horseback travelers. Bikes and horses are both allowed, and the trail is not accessible. The New Mexico, other Southern Areas climbing area is just 0.1 mile away. Little Walnut Road is half a mile off, and North Fork Walnut Creek Road and Sycamore Canyon are each within about 2 miles.
