Sycamore Canyon is an easy, out-and-back hike of about 2.1 miles in the Silver City Ranger District of Gila National Forest in southwestern New Mexico. The trail rises from a low point of about 5,987 feet to a high of about 6,281 feet, a climb of roughly 285 feet one way. The route is on natural surface, and the Forest Service allows both horses and bikes. The trail is open from about April 1 to November 30, and the most comfortable stretch for a visit runs from late spring into early fall. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Ft Bayard show May highs around 80°F and October highs around 74°F, with July and August bringing the most wet days of the year. Nearby, Thirty Something is about 1.9 miles away, and Little Walnut Road is about 2.4 miles off. The Continental Divide Trail passes about 3.2 miles away, and the New Mexico, other Southern Areas climbing area is about 2 miles away.
