Kolcheck Basin Trail is a 3.5-mile out-and-back hike in Nevada's Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, within the Ely Ranger District. The route climbs from about 7,131 feet to 8,037 feet, with a total elevation gain of 906 feet, and the Forest Service manages the land. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. At the Ruth weather station, 21 miles away, typical July averages are a high of 84°F and a low of 47°F. That station sits roughly 1,200 feet below the trail, so temperatures on the basin run cooler.
