Ellison Guard Station Road is an expert-level out-and-back hike in Nevada's Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, within the Ely Ranger District. The route starts at an elevation of about 7,070 feet and climbs to a high point of about 7,073 feet, with a total elevation gain of 2,750 feet and a total descent of the same over a round trip of roughly 26.7 miles. The steepest stretch comes at about 4.4 miles in, where the grade reaches 10 percent. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from the nearby Ruth, Nevada weather station show July highs around 84°F and lows near 47°F, while winter brings highs in the upper 30s and frequent snow days.
