Silver Spring is a hard hike in Nevada's Ely Ranger District, on land managed by the Bureau of Land Management's Bristlecone Field Office. The route is an out-and-back of about 6.6 miles, with a one-way climb of about 2,066 feet from a low point of 6,343 feet to a high of 8,408 feet. The trail is natural-surfaced and allows horses. Bikes are not permitted. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July highs around 83°F with lows near 48°F, and September cools to about 74°F by day. That station sits roughly 1,200 feet lower than the high point, so temperatures on the summit run cooler. Broom Canyon is about 3.7 miles away.
