Brown Creek is a hard hike in the Mountain City-Ruby Mountains-Jarbidge Ranger District of Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest in northeastern Nevada, about 9 miles from the district's boundary. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is an out-and-back that climbs from about 6,700 feet to about 9,400 feet over roughly 9 miles, with a total elevation gain of about 2,700 feet. The trail is natural-surface and allows bikes, so it works for hikers and mountain bikers alike. The route is long and steep, and the high point sits well above the low point, so plan for a full day on foot or on a mountain bike. Right Ranch is less than a mile away, and the Wright mountain biking trail is about a mile off. South Ruby Campground, about 9 miles away, is the closest place to camp. Climbers can head to Harrison Pass, about 7 miles away.
