Lower Nunnery is a bouldering area in the Bozeman Ranger District of Custer Gallatin National Forest in Montana, managed by the Forest Service. It sits among a cluster of climbing and hiking destinations, with Riverside Retreat and The Cube both within a quarter mile, and the Gallatin River fishing access about 0.2 miles away. The area is a bouldering hub, with 25 routes spread across the boulder style. Grades run from V0-1 up to V8, with the median around V2+. Dirt Burglar is the easiest, and If It Bleeds is the hardest. The Cube and Riverside Retreat are close by, so it's easy to pair a session here with another climb. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Big Sky show July highs around 78°F with lows near 41°F, while winter highs stay in the 20s and 30s. Lava Lake is about 0.8 miles away for a hike, and Garnet Mountain Fire Lookout offers camping roughly 1.5 miles off.
