The Cube is a sport climbing area in the Bozeman Ranger District of Custer Gallatin National Forest in Montana, managed by the Forest Service. It sits among a cluster of climbing and river access spots, with Gallatin Tower and Riverside Retreat both about 0.1 mile away and the Gallatin River fishing access just as close. The climbing here is all sport, and the routes run from about 5.11b up to 5.14a. Among the named routes are Evergreen Arete (5.11b), The Third Power (5.12b) and Tree of Life (5.14a), the hardest of the bunch. The area is best suited to climbers who want a day of sport climbing on a single crag. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Big Sky show July highs around 78°F with lows near 41°F, while winter highs stay in the 20s and 30s. Lava Lake is about a mile away for a hike, and Garnet Mountain Fire Lookout offers camping roughly 1.6 miles off. Spanish Creek, about 6 miles away, is a paddling option.
