Sunlight is an easy out-and-back hike in Montana's Custer Gallatin National Forest, within the Gardiner Ranger District and the Hyalite-Porcupine-Buffalo Horn Wilderness Study Area. The trail is about 3.7 miles long, with a one-way elevation gain of 821 feet, taking you from a low point of about 7,473 feet to a high of about 8,772 feet. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is open year-round. The route is natural-surface and allows horses, so it works well for riders as well as hikers. Bikes are not allowed. The trailhead parking is named SUNLIGHT, and the trip is short enough to fit into a day of exploring the surrounding area. Nearby, the Sky Rim Trail lies about a mile away, and Tom Miner Campground is about 1.5 miles off. Mountain bikers can head to Tom Miner Divide South, about 0.9 miles away, or Buffalo Horn Pass, about 1.1 miles away.
