Sapphire Lakes is a short, easy out-and-back hike of about 0.4 miles in the Swan Lake Ranger District of Montana's Flathead National Forest. The trail runs from a low point of about 7,000 feet up to a high of about 7,070 feet, with an elevation gain of about 71 feet one way and a total round trip of about 156 feet. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is natural-surfaced and open year-round, with an estimated trip time of about half an hour. The route is gentle and suited to a quick outing. The steepest stretch comes at about 0.16 miles from the start, with a grade of about 6 percent. Horses are allowed, but bikes are not. Several other outings sit close by. Big Salmon Creek and Sapphire - Smokey are both under a mile away, and Holland Lake Campground is about 3 miles off. Owl Creek Cabin offers a place to stay at about 1.7 miles.
