Mortimer Gulch is a hard out-and-back hike in the Rocky Mountain Ranger District of Montana's Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest, about 11.5 miles long with an elevation gain of 1,157 feet. It starts at a low point of about 4,858 feet and climbs to a high of about 6,253 feet. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is natural-surfaced, with horses and bikes allowed. The trail is not accessible. It works year-round, and Mortimer Gulch Campground sits about 1.8 miles away. The Mortimer Pass hike and the Blacktail Creek hike are each about 1.3 miles from the route. Close by, the Sun River offers canoeing about 1.9 miles away, and Home Gulch Campground is about 2.8 miles off.
