Coal Ridge is a hard hike in the Glacier View Ranger District of Montana's Flathead National Forest, managed by the Forest Service. The route is an out-and-back that gains about 1,168 feet over roughly 27.5 miles, with a low point around 5,858 feet and a high point at 7,252 feet. It is a long, steep day, so plan on time and supplies for the full route. The trail is open year-round and has a natural surface. Bikes and horses are both allowed, so it works for riders and pack animals. Cyclone Peak Trail and Coal Creek lie about 2 miles away. Moran Creek is roughly 2.7 miles off, and Moose Lake Campground is about 5.5 miles away for an overnight base.
