Beardance is a hard out-and-back hike in Montana's Flathead National Forest, within the Swan Lake Ranger District. The trail starts at Beardance Trailhead, and the trip covers about 13.4 miles with a total elevation gain of 2,465 feet, carrying hikers from a low point of 3,054 feet to a high of 5,593 feet. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is open year-round. The route is natural-surface and allows horses and bikes. It is not an accessible trail. Plan on a full day, and be prepared for a steep climb, as the high point reaches over 5,500 feet. Flathead Lake is just 0.1 mile away, and Crane Creek is 0.8 mile off. For more time on the water, Swan Lake is about 6 miles away and offers lake fishing. Mission Lookout campground sits roughly 9 miles from the trailhead.
