Big Eddy Campground is a Forest Service site in northwest Montana, about 6 miles east of the Idaho border on Hwy 200. The nearest town is Heron, roughly 1.6 miles away. The campground has five sites with tables and fire rings, and it can accommodate a 30-foot RV. Vault toilets are the only facility. A fully developed boat ramp with a dock sits at the site, and two day use areas are close by, one with a covered shelter, two picnic tables and fire grills. Summer is the most comfortable time to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station in Heron show July and August highs around 82°F with lows in the mid-40s and the fewest wet days of the year. Winter is cold and snowy, with January highs near 33°F and about 12 snow days. The Clark Fork River Area and the Big Eddy hike are both about 0.1 mile away. Elk Creek, a canoeing spot, is about 2.6 miles off, and Bull River Pavilion campground is about 4.3 miles away.
