Round Top
About
Round Top is a summit in north-central Massachusetts, about 2 miles from the town of Athol. It sits at roughly 1,300 feet, and the Round Top Trail starts just 0.3 miles away, making it the natural way to reach the top. For comfortable weather, aim for late spring through early fall. Typical averages from the nearby Birch Hill Dam weather station show September highs around 73°F with lows near 48°F, and July highs around 82°F. That station sits several hundred feet lower than the summit, so temperatures on top run cooler. Several other trails lie within a short drive. The Deep Cut Bypass Trail is under a mile off, and the Thousand Acre Brook Trail and Observation Hill Trail are each about a mile and a quarter away. Paddlers can head to the Tully River, about 2.7 miles from the summit.
