Lakeside Trail is a 5.5-mile out-and-back hike in Maine's The Roaches CE, a land unit managed by a non-governmental organization. The trail rises from about 1,299 feet to a high point of 1,369 feet, with a total elevation gain of 368 feet over the course of the round trip. The climb is moderate, and the steepest stretch comes at about half a mile in, where the grade reaches 8%. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show July highs around 75°F with lows near 57°F, while winter highs stay in the 20s. That station sits about 330 feet lower than the trail's high point, so temperatures on the higher ground run a little cooler. The hike takes about two hours. The Dr. Wiggles Trail and Emmit Brook Trail, both cross-country ski routes, lie within a third of a mile. Hinckley Cove Trail and Shaw Mountain are also close by.
