Oriole Boulder is a bouldering area in the Hidden Springs Ranger District of Shawnee National Forest in southern Illinois, managed by the Forest Service. It sits among a cluster of climbing spots, with The Roost just 0.1 mile away and The Promised Land about 1.4 miles off. The area has seven boulder problems, all rated on the V scale from V0 to V9. The easiest is Lip Traverse at V0, and the hardest is Chuck Norris at V9, both of which were first ascended by Jason Kehl. The Oriole and Life on Mars high start are both V5, and Life on Mars is V8. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Dixon Springs show October highs around 71°F with lows near 46°F, and May highs around 77°F. July and August run hotter, with highs in the upper 80s. Nearby, Cove Hollow Trail and Zion Church Rd are both about 1.1 miles away. Redbud Campground - Bell Smith Springs is 3.9 miles off, and Bay Creek, a canoeing spot, is 2.5 miles away.
