Cove Hollow Trail is a 3.8-mile out-and-back hike in the Hidden Springs Ranger District of Shawnee National Forest in southern Illinois, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is rated moderate, with an elevation gain of 111 feet from a low point of about 470 feet to a high of about 581 feet. The steepest stretch comes at about 0.7 miles in, with a grade of 8 percent. The trail is on natural surface, and horses are allowed. Bikes are not. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show October highs around 71°F with lows near 46°F, and May highs around 77°F. July and August average highs in the upper 80s. The trail sits close to several other spots. The Promised Land and The Gentleman's Grotto climbing areas are within a mile, Jackson Falls is about 0.7 miles away, and Redbud Campground - Bell Smith Springs is about 3 miles off.
