Cedar Grove is a short, easy hike in the Hidden Springs Ranger District of Shawnee National Forest in southern Illinois, about 1.2 miles long and with a total elevation gain of 33 feet. The trail is an out-and-back, and the climb is front-loaded, with the steepest stretch at about 0.3 miles in, rising to a high point of 609 feet before returning to the low point of 578 feet. The trail is on natural surface, and horses are allowed. Bikes are not. The Forest Service manages the land, and the hike is open year-round, with an estimated time of about half an hour. Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Dixon Springs show October highs around 71°F with lows near 46°F, and May highs around 77°F. Several other trails start close by, including H Connect at 0.1 mile and Cedar at 0.2 mile. The Gentleman's Grotto climbing area is about 2.5 miles away, and Redbud Campground - Bell Smith Springs is about 3.7 miles away.
