Grouse is a mountain biking route in Idaho's Payette National Forest, within the McCall Ranger District. The Forest Service manages the land. It's an out-and-back ride of about 2.8 miles, with a high point of 7,118 feet and a low of 6,803 feet. The climb is moderate, with a total gain of about 845 feet. The steepest stretch comes near the 1-mile mark, where the grade reaches about 14 percent. Summer is the most comfortable time to ride. Typical July and August highs reach about 79°F with lows in the mid-30s, based on averages from a nearby weather station in Warren. That station sits roughly 1,200 feet below the route, so expect it to run cooler on the climb. Lakeview Vista, a hike about a mile away, and the Brundage To Bear Basin Trail, a mountain biking route 1.5 miles off, are the closest neighbors. Paddlers can reach Goose Creek at about 2 miles, and Grouse Campground lies about 4 miles away.
