Wewukiye is a hard hike in Idaho's Boise National Forest, within the Cascade Ranger District. The trail is an out-and-back of about 8.8 miles, with a one-way elevation gain of 577 feet, starting at roughly 5,322 feet and reaching a high point of about 5,819 feet. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail is open year-round. The route is natural-surface and allows both horses and bikes, so it works for riders and pack animals as well as hikers. That makes it a flexible option for a longer outing with a horse or a mountain bike. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at Deadwood Lodge, at a similar elevation, show July highs around 82°F with lows near 40°F, while winter highs stay in the low to mid 30s. Vulcan Hot Springs lies just 0.3 miles away, and West Side Warm Lake is about 0.6 miles off. Cougar Rock is about 1.2 miles away, and Stolle Meadows Cabin offers a place to stay about 1.5 miles from the trail.
