Smith Mountain is an easy hike in the Council Ranger District of Idaho's Payette National Forest, about 3 miles from the town of Landore. The trail is short, roughly a mile long, and it's an out-and-back with a total climb of about 430 feet. The route starts at around 7,070 feet and reaches a high point of about 7,254 feet, and the steepest stretch comes early on, with a 10% grade at about a quarter mile in. The trail is on natural surface, and bikes are allowed. It's a simple outing that pairs easily with other hikes in the area. Nearby, Upper Indian Creek Trail and Horse Pasture Basin Trail are both within about a mile and a half. Black Lake Campground is about 3.6 miles away, and Hells Canyon, a climbing area, is about 8 miles off.
