Rankin Mill is a 10-mile out-and-back hike in Idaho's Hells Canyon Wilderness, within the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area of the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest. The trail starts at about 5,900 feet and climbs to 8,047 feet, a gain of 2,835 feet, and is rated expert. The Forest Service manages the land. The route is natural-surface and allows both horses and bikes. It is open year-round, and the trip works as a single-day outing for the determined. Two other hikes, the Seven Devils Trail and the South Boise Trail, sit about 1.5 miles away. Paddlers can head to Granite Creek, about 3.5 miles off, and Black Lake Campground offers camping roughly 5.5 miles from the trail.
