Pettit Creek Trail is a hard hike in Idaho's Sawtooth National Recreation Area, part of the Sawtooth National Forest. The trail is an out-and-back route of about 13.7 miles, with a total elevation gain of 1,851 feet. It starts and ends at the Tin Cup Hiker Trailhead, and the trail's low point sits at about 7,000 feet, with the high point reaching about 8,900 feet. Pettit Lake Campground lies just 0.1 mile from the trailhead, and the Pettit Lake Cutoff is about 0.2 mile away. Tin Cup Horse is about half a mile off. These make the trail easy to pair with an overnight stay or a shorter outing in the area. The trail is managed by the Forest Service, and the route is not open to bikes. Plan for a full day on foot, and expect the climb to be the most demanding part of the trip.
