Lost Creek-State Line is a hard out-and-back hike in Idaho's Idaho Panhandle National Forests, within the Coeur d'Alene River Ranger District, about 17 miles long and crossing from low at 2,577 feet to a high of 4,992 feet. The Forest Service manages the land, and the trail's natural surface and the climb make it a serious outing. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. July and August typically average highs around 70°F and see only about six wet days a month, based on typical averages from a nearby weather station at Mullan Pass, while winter highs sit in the upper 20s. The station sits about 1,000 feet higher than the trail's high point, so temperatures on the route run warmer than those figures. The trail is open seasonally from July 1 to September 30. Bikes are allowed on this natural-surface route, and the Trout Ridge/State Line Trail starts about 1.6 miles away. Berlin Flats campground and Minton Peak Lookout, both about 5 miles off, offer places to camp.
