Devils Toe is a hard hike in Idaho's Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness, on the Krassel Ranger District of the Payette National Forest. The trail is an out-and-back that climbs from about 3,700 feet to about 6,080 feet, a total gain of 133 feet over roughly 9.7 miles. The Forest Service manages the land, and the route is on natural surface with no designated bike access. Summer is the most comfortable time to go. Typical averages from a nearby weather station at a similar elevation show July and August highs around 76°F with lows in the upper 30s, while winter highs stay near freezing. The trail is open year-round, and several other hikes sit within a few miles, including Disappointment Creek, Grass Mountain (Wilderness) and Runaway Ridge. For an overnight base, Cold Meadows Airfield campground is about 8 miles away.
