Caton Lake is a hard hike of about 14.5 miles on the Cascade Ranger District of Boise National Forest in Idaho, managed by the Forest Service. The trail is an out-and-back that gains about 656 feet in elevation from a low point of 6,129 feet to a high of 7,876 feet. It's a natural-surface route that allows both bikes and horses. The closest neighbor is Rainbow Lake, about half a mile away. Within roughly five miles you'll also find Indian Ridge, Log Mountain and Camp Creek Cutoff. For an overnight base, Poverty Flat campground sits about 6.4 miles from the trail.
