Long Cane Recreation Area is a campground in southwest Georgia, part of the West Point Recreation Area managed by the Army Corps of Engineers. It sits between West Point and LaGrange and makes a good base for a mix of outdoor activities, including hiking, picnicking and group events, along with boat launching. The park is unstaffed, so for general information, contact the main office at (706) 645-2937. Reservations are required and must be canceled 14 days before the reservation date to qualify for a refund. Cancellations for weather-related issues are not eligible for refunds. Spring and fall are the most comfortable seasons to visit. Typical averages from a nearby weather station show April and October highs around 75°F with lows near 47°F and 50°F, while July highs typically reach about 90°F. Rocky Point Recreation Area is just 0.2 miles away, and Veasey Creek Park is about 1.6 miles off. Whitetail Ridge is roughly 2.2 miles away. For a hike, Red Cloud Loop Trail is about 4.3 miles away.
